May Camp ReportAfter an eventful start with a double booking (not our fault!!!), we set up camp with no problems. After a short breather, we set off on a night hike round Morden Park getting back just after midnight. We were up the next morning and set off to London as I had booked the Scouts on the London Eye. I didn’t realise that it was that high! Saturday was excellent weather and we enjoyed great views. After that we walked down towards Tower Bridge taking in the sights. There were numerous moveable statues (Josh also had a go to raise money for the Troop! – see photo) and an astro-turf art display of giant settees and chairs. We also managed to see New York through a Telectroscope situated near City Hall. This device uses fibre-optic cable to show real time images from near Brooklyn Bridge. After an ice cream and a lunch break we set off back to Bow Lane. After our fish and chip dinners we prepared for our campfire. The Scouts decided that they would sit in wheelbarrows! The campfire was a good one. During one of the ghost stories a fox screamed – their faces were a picture! Due to bad weather we decided to strike camp and go inside – this saved us a few hours of packing up in the rain and hanging up wet tents. The Scouts must have been worn out yesterday as they slept in until 9.15am! After a late breakfast and a pillow fight we set off to Wimbledon Common for a hike. We were back for lunch and after final packing up, 3pm had arrived and the Scouts were dismissed. Many thanks to Martin and Susan Knight for being home contacts, Andrew (Baloo) for helping out on Friday and lending us the minibus keys on Sunday. The Scouts on behaving so well, the parents for bringing them along and contributing to the weekend and to Raven Lisa for agreeing to do the camp and for dealing with the Scouts and me!
