Important Update Regarding Subscriptions

Date: 22nd Nov 2018 Author: Scout Websites

As you are aware , along with the majority of Scout Groups and clubs, the 1st Lower Morden charges a subscription fee for all invested members.

This membership subscription covers the cost of buying and maintaining our equipment, to keep our minibus on the road, the upkeep of our extensive grounds and headquarters and also the running costs of the Group. It also covers the annual membership fee paid to UK Headquarters which also includes insurance for all members.

For over 15 years we have not increased our subscriptions and have managed to meet some of our larger commitments by using some of our reserves. However, at a recent Executive Committee Meeting it was decided that with the minibus needing to be replaced and with the increasing cost of utility bills this can no longer be maintained. We have therefore decided to increase our subscription levels.

With effect from 1 January 2019, subscriptions for the 1st Lower Morden will rise to £35 per term for the first child and to £25 per for each subsequent child within the family.

This was not a decision that was taken lightly and I hope you will support the Committee who had to make this difficult choice.

We fully appreciate that money can sometimes be tight. If you need a bit of help with the cost of subs or camps or if you want to spread the payments then please feel free to discuss this with the Leadership Team. Any discussion will be confidential. We aim to be as flexible as possible and would rather know in advance if there are any concerns. We would never want to see somebody excluded from an activity due to the cost involved.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
